How to get backlinks with an AI agent
Backlinks still decide rankings, and getting them is still slow: find a site that gives links, create an account, find the field or the editor, place the link, and check that it went live and is dofollow. An SEO agent removes the slow part without removing the judgement. Here is how it works with SEO Agent, and what it does not do.
1. Decide the campaign, not the links
Give the agent four things: the target URL, two or three keywords, an anchor-text ratio, and a dofollow share. A safe default ratio for a young site is 10% exact match, 20% partial, 30% branded, 25% naked URL and 15% generic. A 70% dofollow share is realistic; a 100% dofollow profile looks bought.
The planner picks sites by authority and ease, spreads the methods so a campaign is not twenty profile pages in a row, and assigns an anchor to every link from the ratio.
2. Let the agent follow each site’s method
For every site the agent receives a playbook for that kind of link, the site’s steps parsed into actions with the exact button names, what the site requires, and the rules: exact URL and anchor, no duplicates, stop at captchas.
Login-free sites, such as URL shorteners and open submission forms, are built automatically with a proof screenshot. Sites that need an account are built by your assistant in its own browser, with the identity you set once.
3. Verify before you count
A link only counts when the public page shows a hyperlink to the target with the intended anchor. The agent fetches that page and checks three things: is the target URL a hyperlink, does the anchor match, and does the link carry nofollow. Two traps it catches that humans miss:
- Anonymous hosts often add
rel="nofollow"to every link ornoindexto the page. A dofollow attribute on a noindex page passes almost nothing. - Some sites show your URL as plain text, not as a link. That is not a backlink.
4. Keep the log
Every placed link, its live URL, its proof and its status live in one results table, so a month later you can re-check which links still stand.
5. Gates are handled in the chat
A captcha, a verification code, a social login or a payment is a gate, not a failure. The agent stops, tells you what the site wants, and offers the ways through in the same chat: clear it yourself in the browser window it opens, connect a service once so it handles it next time (a captcha solver, your inbox over IMAP, an SMS number), paste a code, or skip the site. Once cleared, the build continues where it stopped. It never fakes a person or works around a site’s rules, which keeps your site out of trouble and the links worth having.
6. Check again later
Links drop: posts get moderated away, profiles get deleted. A re-check fetches every placed link again and marks the ones that are gone, and a campaign report shows planned versus placed with every live URL.
What it replaces, in money and weeks
Fifty verified, dofollow-checked backlinks a month is a job. Typical ways to get it done, at typical market rates:
| Cost | Time to 50 links | Knows the sites? | |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-house link builder | $2,500 to $4,000 a month salary, plus tools | 3 to 6 weeks, at 30 to 60 minutes per link | Only the sites they have used before; a new hire starts from a blank list |
| Agency or marketplace | $150 to $400 per DA 40+ dofollow link, so $7,500 to $20,000 per 50 | 4 to 8 weeks | Their list, not yours; you never see the method |
| Freelancer on a gig site | $10 to $50 per link | 1 to 2 weeks | Usually the same 100 sites everyone else spams |
| SEO Agent | $97 a year or $27 a month | An afternoon; login-free sites build in seconds each | 1,245 sites with the exact method for each, verified reachable monthly, with DataForSEO metrics |
The library is the part a team cannot copy quickly. Every site in it came from years of link building: which DA 60 profile page still gives a dofollow link, which forum strips links from new members, which shortener sits behind a captcha, which directory approves in a day. Each entry carries the step-by-step method with the exact button names, what the site requires, and referring domains, spam score and traffic from DataForSEO. A person could rebuild that list, but it would take them the same years.
The agent does not replace judgement: you still choose the keywords, the anchor ratio and which links are worth having. It replaces the hours, and it remembers the sites.
